Occasional bursts of sunshine brightened a rainy Victorian Champions League Metropolitan Gala round weekend.

The regional Zones travelled to the city to take part in the second Victorian Champions League Gala round, which saw rounds and eight and nine completed at venues all over Melbourne.

Under 13 Boys
The Western Wolves continue to dominate the Under 13 Boys Competition, sitting on top of the table -  seven points clear of their nearest rival, the South East Cougars. Western had a close 1-0 win over the Southern Blue Tongues on Saturday, and a 2-0 win over Eastern FC at Dorset Recreational Reserve yesterday.

Under 13 Girls
Two of the regional Zones went head-to-head in the Under 13 Girls competition. Loddon Mallee Lightning played the Wimmera South Coast Eagles on Saturday at Dorset Recreational Reserve. Lightning were too strong, winning 4-1.

Under 14 Boys
Big wins in the Under 14 Boys saw Rivers FC beaten by the North West Wanderers 4-0, only to turn it around to defeat the Northern Allstars 5-2 at Harvest Home Reserve. The South East Cougars were too good for Loddon Mallee Lightning, winning 5-1, and Central City had a big win over Eastern FC on Saturday, 7-1.

Under 15 Boys
Eleventh-placed Loddon Mallee Lightning pushed the third-placed South East Cougars all the way in their match, with the Cougars coming out on top 4-3. The Cougars started off well, with goals to Nikolas Robers and Jon-Luc Silvestri in the second and seventh minutes. Lightning fought back hard with a brace from Thoms Leech and a goal from Andrew Greville in the 68th minute, however it wasn’t enough to overcome the Cougars.

Under 15 Girls
The North East Diamonds had a successful Gala Weekend, defeating the Northern Allstars 5-0, and then winning a close match against Central City, 3-2. Tenth-placed Central City will look to build on that positive form next weekend when they travel to Moama to take on Loddon Mallee Lightning.

Under 17 Girls
The Southern Blue Tongues recorded their third and fourth wins for the season, defeating the Western Wolves 1-0 and the North West Wanderers 2-1.
Rivers FC outplayed the North West Wanderers, 6-2 on Saturday, with a hat-trick from Derya Tanrikulu, and a brace from Sophie Findlay.

Under 18 Boys
The Gippsland Under 18 Boys team were unable to go home with a win, losing 3-1 to the South East Cougars on Saturday, and 2-1 to the Wimmera South Coast Eagles after dominating the second half. Gippsland Captain, Sam Amaira, said the team had been playing good football lately, but have been unlikely not to get a win on the board.

Open Women
Eastern FC scored their first win of the season in the Open Women’s competition against Rivers FC on Saturday at Harvest Home Reserve.
The Gippsland Knights managed to stretch their lead at the top-of-the-table with close wins over Rivers FC and Eastern FC.

FFV would like to thank all the Zones for making the Metropolitan Gala weekend a great success.
