Victorian Champions League matches were played in idyllic conditions for Round 10. In what was an exciting weekend of matches, potential finalists faced off in many of the VCL age groups, with some close results.
Wimmera/South Coast Eagles and North West Wanderers played at Corio, with 3 matches ending in a draw. North West Wanderers finished up with 3 wins, and Wimmera/South Coast won one match, with an 8 goal defeat of North West (11-3) in the Under 17 Girls.
Southern Blue Tongues won 4 of their matches against Northern Allstars. Northern got their own back by defeating the Blue Tongues in the Under 15 Girls. Southern and Northern played out two draws to wrap up their weekend. In the Open Women, Southern defeated Gippsland Knights with the scoreline 2-0 at the end of the match.
Central City FC played Loddon Mallee Lightning at Moama, and the Central City boys were dominant, winning all of their four matches. The Loddon Mallee girls played hard and won two of their three matches, including a 6-0 defeat of the Central City team in the Under 17 Girls. Central City FC defeated Rivers FC 3-0 in the Open Womens.
North East Diamonds had a successful Round 10, winning 6 of their matches against Eastern FC. Two lopsided scorelines featured in this fixture, with a 7-0 win to Eastern FC in the Under 13 Girls, and an 8-0 North East win in the Under 17 Girls, placing them comfortably in third position on the ladder. Eastern FC has a bye in the Open Womens division.
In the Regional showdown between Gippsland Knights and Rivers FC, spectators saw a close battle in all matches, with the margin never more than 2 goals. The Under 14 Boys from Gippsland pulled off an upset, defeating Rivers 3-2 to leave them only 1 point behind Rivers FC on the ladder.
Finally, Western Wolves took on South East Cougars on Sunday. The Wolves won two matches, South East Cougars won 3 and there were 2 draws in the Under 13 Girls and Under 14 Boys. Western Wolves secured top spot in the Under 13 Boys, with a 1-0 win over the Cougars. The Wolves are now 8 points clear of the second placed North East Diamonds in that age group.
