The final “home and away” matches for the Open Women and under 18 boys were played at the weekend, with the semi finals and grand finals to be played this weekend.
Sharing the points on the top of the table in the Open Women is the Gippsland Knights and Central City FC after their 3-3 draw at DISC yesterday.
In the other Open Women’s match, Eastern just got over the line against Rivers FC, winning 2-1.
The match of the round in the Under 18 boys didn’t disappoint. Sitting second and third on the ladder, the North East Diamonds humbled the more fancied South East Cougars, winning 2-1 at White Eagles Stadium.
The bottom-of-the-table Gippsland Knights finished on a high, defeating the Northern Allstars 3-0.
This Finals Series for the Under 18 Boys will be battled out between, the Southern Blue Tongues, South East Cougars, North East Diamonds, Western Wolves and Central City.
The Gippsland Knights came to play in the Under 17 Girls match against the Northern Allstars. The Knights’ finished with an incredible 11 goals, with the Allstars unfortunately unable to trouble the scoreboard.
The South East Cougars made ladder-leaders North East Diamonds earn their victory in the Under 17 Girls, with the final score 4-3 at White Eagles Stadium.
In the Under 15 Girls, the Cougars and Diamonds again played out a thriller, with Diamonds winning 2-1 and holding onto top spot over the Cougars who are only one point behind. The Diamonds led the entire match after Anita Les and Kate Fotopoulos scored in the 30th and 57th minute. The Cougars continued to fight, and on the 68th minute Candela Ferreyra Bas got one back. They were unable to get another, with the final score, 2-1.
Eastern FC upset the Wimmera South Coast Eagles in the Under 15 boys, 3-2. Wimmera’s Marcus Lindeburg and Eastern’s Cameron Poynter both scored braces for their sides.
Loddon Mallee Lightning accounted for the Southern Blue Tongues, 4-0 in the Under 14 Boys match at Epsom Huntly Reserve yesterday.
Central City and the North West Wanderers played out a 2-2 draw in the Under 14 Boys, with Central City finishing the season on 22 points, and the Wanderers not far behind on 19 points.
The Cougars were too strong for the North East Diamonds in the Under 13 Girls competition, winning 3-0. After a strong season two of the VCL competition, the South East Cougars finished on top of the table.
Finally in the Under 13 Boys competition at Epping yesterday, the Northern Allstars defeated the Gippsland Knights, 2-0. Terry Costandelos was the lone goal scorer for Northern.
