The Victorian Champions League Open Women’s and Under 18 Boys’ Finals Series will be played from this Thursday 17th December, with both Grand Finals to be played on Sunday 20th December.
All five teams in the Open Women’s competition will play off this weekend, while the top four teams in the Under 18 Boys have the opportunity to win the Grand Final. There will be no extra time for both divisions, if the match finishes without a winner, penalties will be played.
In the first Semi Final in the Under 18 Boys on Thursday night, the North East Diamonds will play the South East Cougars at DISC, kicking off at 7.30pm. This will be a close game as both teams have had similar seasons; the Cougars have won eight matches while the Diamonds have won seven.
On Friday night in the second Semi Final, the Southern Blue Tongues take on the Western Wolves at DISC, kicking off at 7.30pm. Top-of-the-table Blue Tongues will go into the match hot favourites against the fourth-placed Wolves.
The winners of the two Semi Finals will play in an all-metro Grand Final this Sunday 20th December on the main pitch at Epping Soccer Stadium. The match will follow the National Youth League game between Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC.
For the Open Women, all five teams who have played throughout season – Rivers FC, Southern Blue Tongues (includes players from South East Cougars), Central City, Gippsland Knights and Eastern FC (includes North East Diamonds) – will have the opportunity to play in finals.
In the Elimination Final, it will be Rivers FC and the Southern Blue Tongues fighting it out to play in the Semi Final. The Elimination Final takes place at DISC this Saturday at 10am. The winner will play Central City later that day at DISC, kicking off at 4.00pm.
Gippsland Knights come up against Eastern FC in the other Semi Final at DISC on Saturday at 12.30pm. Gippsland just missed out on the top spot to Central City, and will be very keen to cement their place in the Grand Final.
The winners of the two Semi Finals will play in the Grand Final this Sunday 20th December on the artificial pitch at Epping Soccer Stadium, kicking off at 11am.
