John Murphy was last night appointed the Geelong Regional Football Committee’s (GRFC) inaugural Chairman of the Board.
Steve Lavelle was established as his Deputy.
In an important step in Geelong football, Football Federation Victoria (FFV) CEO, Mark Rendell, and FFV President, Tony Dunkerley were present at the first meeting, which is made up of representatives from each of the 15 football clubs that make up the Geelong Region.
The Geelong region has been a breeding ground for stars that have shaped football in the State, including Josip Skoko, Jason Culina, Matthew Spiranovic and Adrian Leijer.
This meeting followed the clubs historic vote last month to integrate all of football in Geelong into FFV.
FFV has empowered the newly elected Geelong Regional Football Committee (GRFC) to drive the delivery of Football in the region with all administration support and football services to be handled by the FFV.
FFV President Tony Dunkerley, also a former player and coach in the region, reflected his gratitude and delight in his opening address to the club representatives and guests.
“The support from the local clubs is imperative to the success of this partnership and for the delivery of football in the region,” Dunkerley said.
“We congratulate you on your bravery and desire for change and by being the very first regional Association to be integrated into the FFV...everyone always remembers the first.”
As well as announcing the Chairman of the Board, the meeting also discussed the future Operational Plan for the Region, as well as the key dates and strategies to be implemented by both the Committee and FFV in 2010 and beyond as the sport continues to grow throughout all of Victoria.
The next meeting is scheduled for the 15th of February in preparation for the 2010 Season.
