Shepparton will play host to the first weekend of the Championship Series of the Victorian Champions League, as summer football resumes next week for almost 1,500 of our most talented young players.

Partnering with the City of Greater Shepparton, Football Federation Victoria will join local Zone, Rivers FC, to host the pool matches of the Series on January 30 and 31 at McEwen Reserve and surrounding sports fields.

The weekend will be the first of the two-weekend Series which will be followed by a metropolitan-based weekend of finals fixtures on February 6 and 7.

The weekend in Shepparton will kick start the four-game Championship Series, which will see all teams vying for Championship status. With the Series' first-round pools based upon the home and away series final ladder standings, all teams will come together in Shepparton eager to demonstrate just how much they have improved over the summer months.

The additional training and match practice over the traditional 'off season' is seen as invaluable to the ongoing development of Victoria's talented juniors  and now forms a crucial step in the participation pathway from community football in winter, to Zone representative football in summer to State representation.  Although individuals will be watched and considered for State squad selection, team performance will be equally as important as State Coaches are joined by Head Zone Coaches and FFV Coaching personnel to assess those players in the mix for a Victorian squad spot across a number of criteria including team play and attitude.

The Championship Series will be a wonderful showcase of junior football, with young male and female players from all over the state in action.  Splitting the Series over two weekends and taking games to regional Victoria as well as hosting at major metropolitan venues further highlights the truly state-wide nature of the competition.

Participants, parents and spectators can expect to see some exciting and close football across both weekends of the Championship Series and all Victorian football supporters are encouraged to get along to see our future Champions in action.  Week one fixtures and kick off times are available via ResultsVault.
