With the Victorian Champions League Championship Series just days away, the Under 13 Boys division looks set to provide some fantastic football as the youngest players in the competition vie for not only Championship honours, but a spot in the Victorian State Squad.
This division has already produced plenty of high quality football over the season and there will be loads more to come over the two weekends of finals.
Hot favourites for the Championship will be the Western Wolves, who finished on top of the League pre-Christmas, though hot on their heels will be the North East Diamonds who have also had a wonderful season. The Wolves will take on the South East Cougars and regional Zone Rivers FC in Pool A, whilst the Diamonds will be up against Central City and the Northern Allstars in Pool B.
Rounding out the top four in this division were the North West Wanderers in third and the Southern Bluetongues in fourth, with each of these teams going into their pool matches in Shepparton hoping to secure the top spot in their respective pools.
The best of the regional zones were the Wimmera South Coast Eagles who finished in seventh and will take on the Wanderers and Eastern FC, who finished eleventh, in Pool C. In Pool D it will be the Bluetongues taking on two of the VCL’s regional Zones in Loddon Mallee Lightning and the Gippsland Knights, who will be looking to improve on their eighth and twelfth positions respectively and show how much they’ve improved over the competition.
Keep an eye out for Mehdi Sarwi from the Bluetongues and Joseph Monek from the Wolves who shared top goal scoring honours during the regular season with 11 goals each who are sure to continue their good form in the finals.
Some of the other players to watch include Mitch Langenbacher who had a great season with the Lightning and finished with 5 goals for the year, Aron Handrakas and Ardian Vuniqi from Central who are among the favourites for the Gold Medal.
