With the Victorian Champions League Championship Series kicking off tomorrow, the Under 13 Girls division looks set to provide some fantastic football as the youngest players in the competition vie for not only Championship honours, but a spot in the Victorian State Squad.
This division has already produced plenty of high quality football over the season and there will be plenty more to come over the two weekends of finals.
Hot favourites for the Championship will be the South East Cougars, who finished on top of the League table; however hot on their heels will be the Gippsland Knights who have also had a wonderful season. The Cougars will take on the Northern Allstars and Eastern FC in Pool A, whilst the Knights will be up against the North East Diamonds and Western Wolves in Pool B.
Rounding out the top four in the Under 13 Girls were Central City in third position and the Southern Bluetongues in fourth, with each of these teams going into their pool matches in Shepparton hoping to secure the top spot in their respective pools.
In Pool C, it will be regional Zone Loddon Mallee Lightning up against the North West Wanderers and the Blue Tongues. Because Rivers FC did not field a team in this age group, Pool D is made up of two teams instead of the three, Central City and Wimmera South Coast Eagles.
Keep an eye out for Central City’s goal scoring duo, Beatrice Goad and Alicia Vakalopoulos who shared top goal scoring honours during the regular season with seven goals each and are sure to continue their good form in the finals.
Another player to watch is Piper Bennett-Swinley who had a great season with the Knights and finished with 6 goals for the year.
