The Victorian Champions League Championship Series starts tomorrow, and the Under 17 Girls division is sure to provide some fantastic football as they vie for not only Championship honours, but a spot in the Victorian State Squad.
This division has already produced plenty of high quality football over the 2009/10 season, and there will be loads more to come over the two weekends of finals.
Hot favourites for the Championship will be the North East Diamonds, who finished on top of the League pre-Christmas, however, not too far behind is the Loddon Mallee Lightning who have also had a wonderful season. The Diamonds will take on the South East Cougars and Eastern FC in Pool A, whilst Loddon Mallee will be up against the Southern Blue Tongues and the Western Wolves in Pool B.
Rounding out the top four in this division were the regional Zones, Gippsland Knights and Rivers FC, with each of these teams going into their pool matches in Shepparton hoping to secure the top spot in their respective pools.
Eleventh-placed Central City FC will take on the Wimmera South Coast Eagles and the third-placed Knights in Pool C. In Pool D it will be Rivers taking on the Northern Allstars and the North West Wanderers.
Keep an eye out for Jadranka Erceg from the Wimmera South Coast Eagles and Lia Privitelli from the North East Diamonds who shared top goal scoring honours during the regular season with 16 goals each and are sure to continue their good form in the finals.
Some of the other players to watch include Emma Runnalls who had a great season with the Cougars and finished with 15 goals for the year, and Loddon Mallee pair, Alex Cheal and Ilona Jakab, who are among the favourites for the Gold Medal.
